 | | ThunderSport wins at Daytona! | Daytona Beach - The #42 Saturn ION Red Line rolled off the trailer for the Sports Car Club of America's (SCCA) Daytona Classic last weekend and won from the front, earning the ThunderSport Racing Team's first victory of the 2008 season. During Saturday's sun-soaked qualifying session, Mike Kramer pressed his Kumho-tire sponsored machine to a fast lap of just over 91 miles per hour around Daytona's world-famous oval/road course.
When the checkered flag fell on Sunday's 40-minute sprint, the #42 Saturn Red Line streaked across the start/finish stripe claiming the Touring 3 (T3) class win and Kramer's 42nd career victory. "This was just a great weekend for us, the car was stout from start to finish and there's no other experience I can think of that compares to being on top of Daytona's high-banks in a racecar," beamed Kramer.
The #42 Saturn ION Red Line was built at GM's Spring Hill Manufacturing assembly plant in Spring Hill, TN and is supported by: Kumho Tires, Red Line Oil, and Cobalt Friction Technologies. Paddock support and overall guidance was provided by Amber Kramer. Young Jackson Kramer made his first SCCA appearance - meeting new friends in the Daytona garages.
SCCA's Touring 3 class is the racing battleground of America's most popular new performance cars including; Mazda's RX-8 and Mazdaspeed Miata, BMW's Z4, Subaru's Legacy, Audi's TT, Honda's S2000, Chrysler's Cross Fire, Chevrolet's Cobalt SS Supercharged and Saturn's ION Red Line.
Mike Kramer is a five-time SCCA Southeast Divisional Champion with 42 SCCA National victories. Each of those 42 wins was earned in a Saturn racecar. In 2003, he piloted a 1997 Saturn SC2 to the Showroom Stock C (SSC) SCCA National Championship - a first time achievement for him and the first for a GM front-drive car in SCCA's 40-year history.
ThunderSport Racing heads to one of the fastest road courses in North America – Nelson Ledges Raceway near Warren, OH – for the Mahoning Valley Memorial Day Dual National. For more information visit the ThunderSport Racing website at http://www.saturnracer.com. |
