Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts!

Please enjoy the latest September SPS Updates…

New Products
If you have not already heard, Borla Performance Industries has agreed to make a new cat-back Saturn exhaust system which will be available exclusively through SPS. Originally, we were told that we would have inventory by the end of September, but so far, we still have yet to see a prototype! So much for the end of September…

System specifications include 2.0 inch mandrel bent piping, T-304 stainless steel construction, a canister-style resonator, and a Borla straight-through muffler with tip. Retail pricing is expected to be around $510.00. And we are seriously considering offering the cat-back piping without a muffler for around $350.00.

In order to simplify the installation of the Kayne Systems stainless steel mufflers, SPS now offers the stainless steel Kayne Systems Muffler Strap. This strap attaches to the Saturn underbody in the identical fashion as the stock OEM strap and re-uses the OEM upper "L" bracket (part # 21013041) from your existing strap. But unlike the OEM strap, the new Kayne strap fits perfectly around the stainless steel Kayne mufflers and will never rust. The Kayne strap (part no. KAYST01) is available now for $29.00 each.

The GTS Headlight Covers are now available in a Carbon-Fiber look for the 97-99 Saturn Coupes. We have these in stock now. The part number is GTS288CF and they are offered at $59.95 per set.

Many new products will be introduced very shortly. But although we are excited about the new items, we are trying very hard to use discretion about releasing new product information. As we’ve learned from the exhaust projects, sharing any information before solidifying all of the facts can inadvertently mislead customers, employees, and supporters. Please visit our web site often and watch for future updates. Many exciting items are on the horizon!

SPS Racing
August and September were great months for the SPS Racing teams! And the best news is that both teams have qualified to compete at the Valvoline Runoffs for the National Championship on August 10 at Mid-Ohio! Please join us in extending congratulations to scR motorsports and Thundersport Racing!!!

Even though Mike Kramer and Thundersport Racing took a break for most of August and all of September, Mike and the Thundersport Racing team still managed to win the Southeast Divisional Championships!! So not only will they be attending the Runoffs, but they already have one title clinched – and another within their grasp. Mike also very recently became a proud father for a second time with the birth of his son, Joseph Christopher. Mike, you have many reasons to be proud. Congratulations!

Meanwhile, at scR motorsports, James Walker and the team have been very busy earning their own invitation to the Runoffs. On August 8-9, scR competed at Grattan near Grand Rapids, Michigan. An exciting practice session - that resulted in a few more battlescars for the #34 race car - was followed by an outstanding 4th place qualifying (out of 11 cars.) Unfortunately, the race brought pouring rain – yet scR had gambled to stick with race tires. So traction was non-existent. The result was a last place finish – and a team that was glad to keep everything in one piece!

James and team scR fared much better at Mid-Ohio on August 22-23. (We like to think that is has something to do with the exceptional crewing assistance of John and Roger from SPS.) Even though the car felt slow during qualifying, we managed to land in 6th place out of 13 cars. The race on Sunday started a bit slow – no-one likely to catch us for 6th place, but we were losing ground on 5th place. Then suddenly, James just caught fire (not literally) and started driving like a demon! His lap times dropped from the low 1:53s to the low 1:52s! By the last lap, we had caught the Nissan in 5th…but then the checkered flag flew. Our 6th place was good for a few more national points – and some very fast laps were good for boosting James’ confidence.

Good fortune continued for scR at Mosport Park in Canada on September 5-6. Despite some awkward travel and camp set-up challenges, the scR Saturn qualified 4th out of 6 cars in SSC. They were pleased, but they knew that they could go faster. During the race on Sunday, they definitely went faster! It didn’t take long for James to take command of 3rd place. And he stayed with the two Nissans in 1st and 2nd place for the entire race. His resulting 3rd place finish was good for 7 national points and secured an invitation to the Runoffs in October!

We truly believe that either of the SPS Racing teams has a real chance of winning the SSC National Championship. Stay tuned…we’ll let you know the results in October!

SPS Events
SPS invites all Saturn enthusiasts to join us at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on October 5-10 to support the SPS Racing efforts of James Walker of scR motorsports and Mike Kramer of Thundersport Racing. Both of our teams have qualified for the Valvoline Runoffs and will be competing for the National Championship!

This is a general spectator event, so no special arrangements or RSVPs are necessary. Entrance passes for the Runoffs are $15.00 per adult for day passes, payable at the gate, or $40.00 per adult for week-long passes, payable at the gate. Children under 12 enter free.

SPS News
SPS is proud to introduce our newest team member, Roger Baker. Roger decided to join the SPS team after serving as a sales consultant at Saturn of Dayton for over two years. He has been with SPS on a part-time basis for most of September and he will begin on a full-time basis starting October 1st.

Not only does Roger bring over two years of Saturn experience, but he also brings a lifetime of experience with performance and motorsports – since his father is the owner and manager of Baker Racing, a local (and successful) Sprint car team. Roger even competed in cart racing for several years when he was younger.

Roger is the proud owner of a 1997 SL1, which will soon become a test-bed for many new performance products for the SOHC Saturns. (Just don’t tell his wife about the testing part…)

If you have any questions, please email us.

Until next month, HAVE A GREAT FALL!
