Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts!

Please enjoy the latest November SPS Updates…

New Products
So you want a performance exhaust system, but you don’t want to spend any money? We hear you! We now have the inexpensive Pacesetter cat-back exhaust systems in stock for all 93-96 SC2s. These systems use 2 3/16 inch diameter piping, mandrel bends, and a Pacesetter performance muffler. Other features include painted mild steel construction and a huge 4-inch round chrome tip. All clamps, fasteners, and gaskets are included with each system. The part number for the Pacesetter 93-96 SC2 systems is PS88-1472 and they are available now for only $189.00 each. That’s not a typo – the complete system really is only $189.00! We recently tested one on a 96 SC2 and we were pleasantly surprised by its excellent fit and fine sound qualities.

Owners of SOHC Saturns (SL, SL1, SC1, and SW1 models) have been somewhat ignored when it comes to effective handling upgrades since the SOHC models do not come from the factory with a standard rear sway bar. And next to tires, a firmer rear sway bar is the most important upgrade that can be done to improve a stock Saturn’s handling. SPS has changed this inequity with the introduction of our SOHC rear sway bar installation kit. Our exclusive kit includes one pair of weld-on brackets that attach to the rear suspension cross-member, one pair of end-link brackets, one pair of end-link kits, one pair of bushing brackets, one pair of bushings, and all required fasteners. This kit does NOT include the rear sway bar so as to allow flexibility in bar selection. The part number for our new kit is SWAY101K and they will be available by the end of November for $159.00 each. (Brackets are in production now.)

This may be obvious to some, but now that the Kayne cat-back exhausts are finally here, we can offer the long-awaited 21 HP Package (PKG001.) There is a lot of flexibility in how exactly this package is structured, but it includes: Hotshot Powerstack intake (your choice of chrome or ceramic,) SPS throttle body, Hotshot header, Kayne cat-back exhaust piping (your choice of 304 or 409,) Kayne performance muffler (your choice of Street, Sport, Ralleye, or Aluminized,) SPS FPR fuel pressure regulator (your choice of model,) Beru Silverstone spark plugs, and your choice of Nology or Magnecor spark plug wires. The cost of the package depends upon what items are selected among the options. But it is discounted at 8% off the normal retail total. (For the math-impaired, add up the total of the normal prices for all of the items that you have chosen within the package, multiply that total by .92. The resulting number is the package price.)

Many more new products will be introduced very shortly. But although we are excited about the new items, we are trying very hard to use discretion about releasing new product information. As we’ve learned from previous projects, sharing any information before solidifying all of the facts can inadvertently mislead customers, employees, and supporters. Please visit our web site often and watch for future updates. Many more exciting items are on the horizon!

Yuck – Winter Weather
We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but winter weather is almost upon most of us. And accordingly, slippery roadways will be here soon. Now is the time to invest in snow tires. And this year’s snow tire deal at SPS is a strong one! We are offering Firestone Winterfire snow tires in a 195/60/15 size mounted and balanced on 15 inch OEM steel wheels. Our part number for these is STL/FW15 and they are available for $89.95 each. We recently compared these to an identical offering from the big wheel and tire distributor that advertises in all of the major automotive magazines – you know the one we’re talking about – and they had an almost identical package priced at $106.50 each. So we know that our price of $89.95 is a great deal! Don’t delay!!

SPS Racing
The crew at SPS is proud to announce the addition of a new member of the SPS Racing team - racer extraordinaire Gary Lippert. Gary hails from Rochester, NY and campaigns a 1992 SC in the SCCA’s ITA (improved touring A) class of amateur road racing under the name, Checkerboard Autosports. Gary formerly raced with the ICY Racing team when they competed in the Firestone Firehawk series – in fact, his car still wears many of the red, white, and blue graphics left over from the days of Valvoline-sponsorship. But since ICY switched to the World Challenge series, Gary has raced the car in a variety of 12 and 24-hour endurance races and, of course, SCCA ITA races.

We were able to help crew for Gary on October 17 at Nelson Ledges. We were impressed not only by his incredibly fast – and aggressive – driving style, but also by his personable nature. Gary is a great guy, and we look forward to working with him. And we expect that the relatively lenient rules in Improved Touring will serve as an exciting test bed for current and future SPS products.

SPS is currently working with Gary to create a web site that will share the many aspects of his racing efforts. Please look for future links to this site from the SPS site once it is completed. (We’ve already assembled a collection of awesome photos that we are anxious to share!)

Even though James Walker and the scR motorsports team finished their 1998 season with the October 10 Runoffs, preparation for the 1999 season has already begun. The big news is an exciting new suspension package that is currently being finalized thanks to a combined effort from James, team scR, H&R, SPS, and a small group of clandestine scR enthusiasts (thanks guys!) This new package is currently pending submission to the SCCA Comp. Board, so we cannot yet release any details. But trust us: if approved, this year’s package will open a new era of competitiveness for Saturns in SCCA club racing!

After many hours of experiencing racing as a crew member, October 25 finally provided the first chance for SPS founder and CEO, John Comeskey, to taste the thrill of a racecourse from the driver’s perspective! John was fortunate enough to be invited to the first annual Wheel Source/Passen Motorsports driver’s school at the Putnam Park Road Course in Indiana. The day at Putnam included more than 2 hours behind the wheel of John’s modified 1996 SL2 at speeds reaching 100 mph. Says John of the event, "Driver’s school was by far the most fun motorsports event that I have driven yet. I understand now why James and Mike are so addicted to this racing thing. And I can’t wait for the next one!" We hope to post a full report of the event soon, complete with photos, to the SPS web site.

SPS Events
The SPS team is planning to spend most of the winter developing new products and preparing for the 1999 spring season. So we don’t have much planned in the way of events. If you have suggestions for a 1999 event that you would like us to attend, please Contact Us.

The fall/winter schedule follows:

Nov 15: SPS staff technical training at the corporate training center in Lima, OH.
Nov 26: Pass the turkey, pass the dressing, turn on the football game – We Love Thanksgiving!
Dec 5: SPS at the PRI trade show in Indianapolis (no booth, just attending)
Dec 25: Christmas Day! (Hint: SPS parts make great gifts!)

More events may fill the schedule as we continue!

If you have any questions about anything in this newsletter, please Contact Us.

Until next month, HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING!
