Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts!

Please enjoy the latest May SPS Updates…

SPS Online Order Page Returns

After a brief shutdown, the SPS online order page is once again operational - and it’s better than ever! While the appearance and operation of the new ordering mechanism are nearly identical to the previous version, the new system finally benefits from a secure server location. It also automatically assigns an order number to each order (for better tracking by both customers and team members) and delivers a separate email confirmation for each order.

The new order system is online now at https://ss17.pair.com/custsvc/sps/order.html and, as always, it is also accessible from various links within the SPS website.

Improved security and order accuracy are just the first of several planned improvements. Look for additional features to be implemented in the future!

Product News
Our new yellow styling kit is just the thing to set the new limited edition yellow 2001 SC2 – or any car, for that matter - apart from the crowd and to make it look even better than it does already! This kit includes two bright yellow silicon Powerstack couplers (including 4 new clamps,) one foot of silicon crankcase vent tubing, one yellow "SPS by Hotshot" decal, three yellow 3x1.5-inch small vinyl graphics, and one yellow "SPS Performance" window banner. Separate prices total to $49.45, but this entire PWRSTKYEL kit is only $39.00.

Our "SPS Racing" lanyard is the perfect way to wear your credentials at races and shows. This awesome lanyard features a ¾ inch thick strap, an ID clip, and a key chain. Lanyard is black with a stitched "SPS Racing" logo in silver. Part number MPLAN01B is available now for only $7.99 each.

It doesn’t take long for most enthusiasts to realize that stock wheel bearings fail quickly when subjected to the cornering loads that result from performance tire and suspension combinations. While we have not yet found a heavy-duty or "performance" replacement for the rear bearings, we are able to sell replacement stock rear bearings for less than most other sources. We currently stock the MC512000 for all "S" cars without ABS for $99.00 each. (These are the same as Saturn part no. 21012556.)

Our 3 x 1.5-inch "SPS" vinyl graphics are just the right size – and just the right price – to be used anywhere. They look great on side windows, rear decklids, and front quarter panels (beneath the side emblems.) Available in red (JMTBR,) silver (JMTBS,) and yellow (JMTBY.) Only 50 cents each (or get two free with any parts order!)

Many more new products will be introduced very shortly. But although we are excited about the new items, we are trying very hard to use discretion about releasing new product information because sharing any information before solidifying all of the facts can inadvertently mislead customers, employees, and supporters. Please visit our web site often and watch for future updates. Many more exciting items are on the horizon!

SPS Racing
After an entire 1999 season of being forced to watch from the sidelines, scR’s James Walker has returned to the road-racing scene with a vengeance. James and a large group of supporters and crewmembers competed at Michigan’s Waterford Hills racetrack on May 6-7 for only the second competitive showing ever of the scR ITA racecar.

Though several crewmembers and the driver admitted to feeling a bit rusty (those long lay-offs can really take their toll,) the weekend effort was highly successful! And even though the Waterford events are not SCCA sanctioned, competition was fierce.

After the practice and qualifying session on Saturday morning, James was very pleased to earn a 4th in class (out of 13) and 6th overall (out of 23) starting position for the race in the afternoon. However, with an erratic idle, pulsating brakes, and a bouncy suspension setup, the afternoon race was a bit disappointing. It ended with a 5th in class and 6th overall finish. And it left the team with lots of work to do before Sunday.

The good news for Sunday morning was that the brake issues were resolved. However, the suspension problems only got worse as a result of some attempted damping rate changes. (It appears that firmer strut mounts are going to be a necessity in order to manage the stiffer spring and damping rates that are used on the ITA car!) After starting 5th in class (6th overall,) James was unhappy to actually loose positions during the race. He finally finished 5th in class and 7th overall – but James (and the team) was determined to make a change for the better for the afternoon race. After some Dairy Queen and some more damping changes, the afternoon race started with James in 3rd in class and 4th overall. After an exciting race, scR managed to finish just as it started – 3rd in class and 4th overall. Not a bad start for a new car on a new track after a yearlong layoff!

James and the scR team race again over the Memorial Day weekend at Grattan. To see the latest scR newsletter, scR tech article or to see the 2000 schedule, visit the scR motorsports website at http://www.teamscr.com.

After being forced to miss the action this past Friday evening at the Kilkare speedway in Xenia, Ohio due to a broken rear suspension member, Roger Baker and the Baker Racing team regrouped, made the necessary repairs overnight, and competed again in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday. Though the Columbus event was only Roger’s third competitive Legends event, he qualified 8th in his class for the feature race. During the race, he cleanly passed two others to take the 6th spot. Then, in an exciting last lap dash, the 4th and 5th place cars touched and wrecked, allowing Roger to take the checkered flag in the 4th position. Then a disqualification in the tech shed removed the 3rd place finisher from the standings and bumped Roger into the 3rd place spot. With only three races under his belt, he’s already on the podium!
