Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts! Please enjoy the latest March SPS Updates… SPS Moves into New Warehousing and Distribution Facility SPS is proud to announce the opening of our new headquarters in Dayton, Ohio. As of March 3, 1999, all SPS operations have been relocated to 4220 East River Road, Dayton, OH 45439. The new facility is much larger and includes a small showroom to accommodate a small number of walk-in visitors. We are confident that the new facility – combined with a new telephone and voice-mail system – will enable SPS to better serve its growing base of customers. The new SPS World Headquarters is visible on the East side of Interstate Highway 75 beside the large Cooper tire facility. To get to the new facility from I-75, take the Dryden Road exit and proceed South on Dryden to the Cooper plant. Just before the Cooper plant, turn right onto East River Rd. Before crossing the interstate bridge, turn immediately right again and veer left into the parking lot. If you are in the area, we welcome you to stop in for a visit! Make Your Reservation Now for the 1999 Performance Pilgrimage If you have not already heard, the 1999 SPS Performance Pilgrimage will be held in conjunction with the 1999 Saturn Homecoming in Spring Hill, Tennessee. This year’s event will begin with a caravan from Dayton to Spring Hill on Thursday, July 29 and will conclude with a Solo II autocross race held in cooperation with the Tennessee Region SCCA on Sunday, August 1. The 1999 Pilgrimage will also include the largest-ever modified Saturn display on-site at the Saturn Homecoming, and many other official Homecoming events including performances by Hootie and the Blowfish, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill. Details of the 1999 Pilgrimage are available online (or will be soon!) along with reservation and registration instructions and forms at the SPS site. Please visit http://spswebpage.com for more details. Product News LUKS "metal-white" halogen replacement bulbs emit a hyper-white beam that looks like HID (high intensity discharge.) And the 80-watt low beams and 100-watt high beams ensure a very bright lighting upgrade! LUKS low-beam bulbs are part number HYP9006 while the high-beam bulbs are HYP9005. Both are $24.95 per bulb. Our 8mm clamp-style spark plug wire separators consist of two clamp halves that connect together with a screw fastener. (Similar to the Nology NOL005 separators.) This provides the strongest and most visually powerful way to separate and organize a set of spark plug wires. Our unique 8mm sets are just the right size to be used with either the Accel 8mm or Magnecor 8.5mm wires and they are available in either black or red! Kit includes one two-wire separator, one three-wire separator, and one four-wire separator. The kits are available in both black (TAY42700) or red (TAY42720) and are $14.95 each. Many more new products will be introduced very shortly. But although we are excited about the new items, we are trying very hard to use discretion about releasing new product information because sharing any information before solidifying all of the facts can inadvertently mislead customers, employees, and supporters. Please visit our web site often and watch for future updates. Many more exciting items are on the horizon! Performance Concept Car Update Following the successful presentations at Los Angeles and Chicago, the Saturn/SPS Performance Concept SC2 enjoyed another successful show in Columbus, Ohio from March 6 to March 14. As with the Chicago show, representatives from SPS were on-hand to answer questions and spread the message of Saturn enthusiasm. The Performance Concept will again be displayed at the National Saturn Retailer Conference in Philadelphia, PA on March 21-23. It will then make the long journey to New York City for the International Auto Show taking from April 3 to April 11. March Specials Due to several circumstances, there are no new specials for the month of March. We plan to resume the monthly specials again in April. However, we still have a few leftover items and returned items on hand that we would love to sell fast. SPS Racing In a sudden and surprise decision, James Walker and the scR motorsports team have decided not to campaign the white #34 car in National SSC racing for the 1999 season. The change is in response to on-going delays by the SCCA Competition Board in approving the 1999 SSC (Showroom Stock "C") Saturn performance package. A second racecar has been selected to join the scR stable. Details have not yet been released, but James promises, "The new car will be lighter, more powerful, corner faster, and will sport open headers. We're finally building a 'real' race car!" The new scR motorsports schedule will be posted as soon as it becomes official. For more details, visit the scR motorsports site at http://www.teamscr.com. Mike Kramer and the Thundersport Racing Team’s first race of the season was at Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, GA. on March 13-14. Conditions were warm and sunny on Saturday, but became cold, wet, and sloppy for the race on Sunday. Despite the unpleasant conditions, the Thundersport team excelled with a second place finish out of a 7-car SSC field – just behind the Nissan 200SX that was the runner-up at the 1998 Runoffs! Great job, Mike! The Thundersport team raced again this past weekend, March 20-21, at the Lowes Motor Speedway, formerly known as Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Charlotte facility is a 2.5-mile oval roadcourse, 80% of which is run on the big speedway oval. In an outstanding performance – thanks in part to a brilliant alignment strategy – Mike took first place in SSC and third place overall, beating five other SSC cars and even two SSB cars! His average speed on the course was just below 100 mph. Someone must have forgotten to tell Mike that the Saturn cars are supposed to be the "underdogs!" Mike and the Thundersport team race again at Road Atlanta on April 3-4. SPS Events The SPS schedule for 1999 is starting to fill up.
