Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts!

Please enjoy the latest July SPS Updates…

SPS Meets the ION
In the last few months, our team at SPS has been astounded by the large number of inquiries that we have received from ION owners. And while the market for ION parts and accessories is just starting to come to life, we believe that the ION will make a great hotrod and that the aftermarket will respond with a large selection of parts.

Already, SPS has some parts in stock for the ION. This list is small but growing. Currently, it includes: K&N drop-in filters, aluminum flywheels, SPEC clutch kits, NGK and Denso spark plugs, PIAA wiper blades, and super-white headlamp bulbs. Some of our manufacturing partners are working on more items including springs, dampers, intakes, and exhausts.

But this is just the beginning of the story. Recently, SPS took delivery of our very own 2003 ION 3 sedan. We plan to lend this car to many of our manufacturing partners to expedite the development of new parts. And we plan to use the car as our own hands-on learning tool so that we can be as knowledgeable about the ION as we are about the S series.

And later this summer, we plan to introduce our new website – complete with vehicle specific online catalogs for the ION, VUE, S series, and L series.

So stay tuned. While finding parts for your late-model Saturn may be a challenge now, its only a matter of time before ION owners will have a large selection of toys to choose from!

Product News
SPS high output DIS ignition coils are made in the same factory as Accel and MSD coils. And they feature the same specialized silicone magnetic steel core, the same coil windings, the same enhanced turns ratio, and the same brass electrical contacts. Money-saving black exterior shell promotes a stealth appearance. Covered by a 12-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. For all 91-02 S-series (but 96-98 vehicles will require modification to ignition module mounting plate.) See part number SPS2100P for $39.00 each.

Many more new products will be introduced very shortly. But although we are excited about the new items, we must use discretion about releasing new product information because sharing any information before solidifying all of the facts can inadvertently mislead customers, employees, and supporters. Please visit our web site often and watch for future updates. Many more exciting items are on the horizon!

SPS Racing
ThunderSport Racing's Mike Kramer, with the support of substitute Crew Chief John Brandlehner and crew-guy helper David Crosby, made it three wins in a row with a come-from-behind victory over Honda pilot Tom Long at Road Atlanta's daunting 2.54 mile road course. Kramer pushed the red, white and blue Panasonic Automotive Systems Saturn across the finish line a mere 2/100ths of a second in front of Tom Long's Honda Civic Si.

Kramer qualified his Saturn in the second grid position for the Showroom Stock C field on Saturday, clocking a quick lap of just over 82 miles per hour. During the early stages of the 19-lap sprint, Kramer and Long set a blistering pace, outrunning the rest of the 9-car SSC field by almost 30 seconds before settling into a nose-to-tail tango that lasted until the final sequence of corners of the race.

On the final lap, Kramer guided the #16 Saturn into Long's draft as they flew down the back straightaway in a 120 mile-per-hour blur. While entering the braking zone for the left-hand, then right-hand combination of turns 10a and 10b called the ‘chicane,’ Long veered to the left to defend his position just as Kramer swung right to take the optimum line through the corner. Long lost momentum as the two cars pressed to the uphill and downhill corner sequence of Road Atlanta's turns 11 and 12. The two cars came together, Kramer to the inside and Long to the outside. The door-to-door bumping and grinding was ferocious as the two cars slid down the right-hand sweeper at over 100 miles per hour. With the finish stripe only a few meters ahead and the checkered flag waving from the starter's stand, it was Saturn polymer panels versus Honda sheet metal.

In the end, polymer dominated – but it was a close one, to say the least! Yet another checkered flag for Panasonic Automotive, Kumho Tires, the gang at SPS, and Red Line Oil. The win at Road Atlanta was Kramer’s 31st career victory and his third consecutive win for 2003. If all goes well, Mike and the Thundersport crew will race again at Roebling Road on July 4-6.

Meanwhile, scR motorsports strikes again at MidOhio over the July 4 weekend. As always, be sure to catch the latest news, schedule changes, race recaps, and photo and video galleries at the new scR website located at http://www.teamscr.com.

SPS and UPS Closed for July 4 Holiday
Don’t forget that Friday July 4 is the national Independence Day holiday. In honor of the holiday, SPS will be closed all day Friday July 4 and reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Monday July 7.

Please also remember that United Parcel Service (UPS) will be closed on Friday July 4. So there will be no pickups or delivery on Friday. And packages that are in transit will stop on Friday and resume transit on Monday.

New SPS Website Nears Completion
For two years, Jen and John from SPS and Brian from Belnet have been working hard to create a new website for SPS. Our goal is to create a site that will not only look more modern, but more importantly, that will be easier and more pleasant for our customers to use.

Critical for accomplishing this goal is implementing a shopping cart feature, creating platform-specific online catalogs, and driving the content through a master database (to ensure timely and accurate updates.)

At this juncture, our prototype site is operational. With any luck, the final site will be publicly launched before the leaves turn brown. Stay tuned for more updates!
