Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts! Please enjoy the latest July SPS Updates… We Appreciate Your Business The entire team at SPS extends our thanks to you and the many customers and Saturn enthusiasts that have helped make this our best summer ever. Thanks to your enthusiasm, we have literally doubled our sales and our staff since this time last year. And we intend to continue this trend - and to thank you with more than just "lip service" - by reinvesting to serve you better in the future. Already, we have added both a full-time inventory manager and a financial controller to our team of professionals, added shelving and storage capacity to our warehouse, and increased inventory levels considerably. Within the very near future, we expect to add new features to our website, invest in new computer software and hardware, add another salesperson, develop a revised wholesale program, and add many new products to our large list of items. We believe that there is no substitute for doing a job well. In the coming months, we will continue to look for new and innovative ways that we can improve your purchasing experience with SPS. Specifically, we will be targeting larger inventories, improved product designs, intensive sales staff training, and efficiency improvements in the processing and handling of customer orders and inquiries. Product News The ultimate suspension package for the LS and LW Saturns is available now from the leader in suspension technology: Koni. This incredible complete 4-corner kit includes adjustable Koni dampers with threaded front bodies, ride-height adjustable coil-over spring kits, performance springs, upper spring seats, a spanner wrench, and all other necessary hardware. Adjustable damping, adjustable ride height, and Koni engineering guarantee the best in this package! (Kit comes complete with dampers, springs, adjustable spring perches, and all required parts for all four corners of the car.) The KO5032 kit is available now for $1599.00. The LS and LW models, like many European cars, use lug bolts instead of lug nuts. This can be frustrating when removing and installing wheels often, since aligning the bolts requires more effort and time. Our lug stud conversion kit eliminates the stock wheel bolts and replaces them with 20 conventional wheel studs. This kit also includes 16 chromed closed-end lug nuts, 4 locks, and a key. The WS948LS kit is available now for $99.00 per kit. FET’s CATZ Galaxy White Bulbs have earned the reputation as the "hottest" bulb on the market. Their latest bulbs to become available are the long-awaited 9005 and 9006s. Thanks to a unique coating procedure, the Galaxy White bulbs create an extreme HID-look while maintaining excellent lighting efficiency. And – as with any FET CATZ product – they provide legendary quality with exceptional value. (For off-road use only. Sold in pairs.) Choose the 60-watt high beam bulb, CZB-56, for $69.00 per pair or the 51-watt low beam, CZB-57, for $69.00 per pair. Many more new products will be introduced very shortly. But although we are excited about the new items, we must use discretion about releasing new product information because sharing any information before solidifying all of the facts can inadvertently mislead customers, employees, and supporters. Please visit our web site often and watch for future updates. Many more exciting items are on the horizon! July Specials Our generic imported strut tower brace may not exude the quality craftsmanship of some others on the market, but at this low price, you may not care! This bolt-on brace strengthens the area between the front upper strut towers to increase chassis rigidity for better handling and improved steering response. And it features a highly polished cross bar with powdercoated black brackets. Fits all SOHC and 91-96 SC and SC2 Saturns. (Note: brackets will contact hood liners on some DOHC models.) The VIB1840 is available during July for only $39.00 each! Oops! We bought tons of generic open-ended performance cone filters with a 3-inch diameter base – but did not know until it was too late that they are un-oiled and not what we were expecting. These are similar to the JM3014 filter (tapered shape, chrome trim, etc.) but the filter unit is not oiled. We’re not even sure if they are cleanable or if they should be oiled. That’s why they are this cheap… Order the "JM65-1160" for only $19.95 each, while supplies last! (Note: all sales of JM65-1160 filters are final. No warranty, no returns.) Please visit the SPS web site (http://www.spswebpage.com) for more details! SPS Racing Many changes have been made to the scR motorsports ITA racecar since the last competition at Grattan in May. Most importantly, the stock upper strut mounts have been replaced with camber plates in the front and solid mounts in the rear. And a new oil cooler was installed in order to keep oil temperatures under control. These changes were tested for the first time during a double regional at Grattan on June 8-9. The good news is that the new parts and changes worked great! The bad news is that scR’s 94 SC2 racecar was still plagued by several mechanical problems… After a damp qualifying session on Saturday, things looked very positive for the scR team. A second place spot on the starting grid put the James Walker and the scR car amongst some of the fastest ITA cars in America – including two CRXs that ran away from the Saturn during the season opener at Waterford. And the scR car was fast – very fast! (Apparently, the new setup worked.) However, during an exciting door-to-door battle for second place during the race, the unheard-of happened: the right rear wheel came loose on the scR Saturn and nearly fell off! At this time, we are not sure why. A thorough pre-race checklist normally ensures that all four corners are torqued and checked. And the experienced crew on hand at Grattan seems unlikely to have overlooked such a vital task. But no matter why it happened, it still happened. And as a result, James was forced to retire from the Saturday race and the team was forced to replace the damaged wheel and wheel spacer as a result of the incident. On Sunday, team scR returned again for another shot at the podium. This time, they qualified 4th in class. Again, they were smack dab in the middle of the pack of CRXs that had previously reigned supreme. This time, all of the wheels stayed on. And this time, the top 3 cars quickly abandoned the rest of the field, leaving James in an aggressive battle for 2nd place. But, as luck would have it, just as James looked as though he was going to make a pass stick for the 2nd position, the Saturn’s gas pedal broke – literally, the pad snapped from the shaft! Needless to say, the lack of a gas pedal briefly disrupted James’ driving efforts and forced him back into the 3rd place spot. But James somehow managed to kick the broken pedal pad out of the way and continued racing – using just the broken accelerator rod as his pedal! Then, as he was regaining ground on the CRX in 2nd place, the left front wheel bearing exploded – leaving a glob of grease on everything within reach, including the brakes, the wheel, and the knuckle. Unlike the pedal incident, this one slowed him down. Fortunately, his lead on the 4th place car was so large that he still managed to finish in 3rd – despite the unusual string of mechanical calamities. James and the scR team race again July 29-30 at Watkins Glenn.
