Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts!

Welcome to 1999! Please enjoy the latest January SPS Updates…

Saturn Corp. Teams with SPS to Make Performance Concept Show Car
SPS is proud to announce our participation in a project with Saturn Corporation to construct a radical performance show car for the 1999 International Auto Show circuit. The 1999 RAD concept is based upon the new 1999 Saturn SC2 with the RAD (rear access door) feature. But this vehicle has been extensively modified to add both performance and style.

The 150 HP concept car powerplant has been enhanced with such features as extrude-honed intake and exhaust manifolds, SPS throttle body, chrome Powerstack intake, Kayne 304 exhaust with Ralleye muffler, SPS 380 kpa fuel pressure regulator, and Magnecor ignition wires. Likewise, the suspension benefits from the SPS 1998 SCCA Showroom Stock Suspension Package, and a unique SPS strut tower brace.

Other aftermarket modifications include a rear disc brake conversion, front and rear Stillen cross-drilled rotors, Carbotech HPS brake pads, Enkei Shogun 17x7 Tuner wheels, Firestone Firehawk SZ50 215/40ZR17 tires, SPS Short Shifter, and CATZ XLO driving lamps. Saturn team members also contributed a one-of-a-kind HotRod Red Paint Scheme and a custom red leather interior.

The RAD Concept Coupe will be on display at the Greater Los Angeles International Auto Show from January 2-10 (http://www.laautoshow.com) and the Chicago Auto Show from February 13-21 (http://www.chicago-autoshow.com). More information is available about the RAD project on the SPS web site (http://spswebpage.com), and we will post photos as soon as they are available.

Product News
SPS is proud to offer Covercraft custom front-end bras, which are the same ones sold by Saturn as the official front-end cover accessory. Covercraft’s great fit and high-quality materials ensure convenient and long-lasting protection against stone chips, bugs, and debris. Features include easy – no tools needed – installation, custom tailoring for an exact fit, and the ability to open the hood with the bra in place. Covered by Covercraft’s 90-day warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. 7 versions are available to fit every Saturn application, and they will be in stock soon. Pricing starts at just $109.00. Please visit the SPS web site to find the specific cover for your Saturn!

SPS now offers the Iceman cold-air intake system. Like the Powerstack, the Iceman cold-air intake system replaces the factory airbox and related plumbing with a 2-piece plastic tube and a K&N cone filter. Together, the gradual cone shape of the intake tube along with the open-element filter reduce the air inlet restriction - allowing more air to enter the combustion chamber and resulting in more power! Unique features of the Iceman include its plastic construction which resists heat transfer from underhood sources and an untapped fitting for a nitrous-oxide nozzle. Fits all DOHC and 95+ SOHC. Available in black, yellow, red, and blue. Pricing starts at $175.00.

With both the Iceman and Powerstack intakes to choose from, many customers ask us "which is best?" Like anything else, neither are perfect – they both have their own advantages and disadvantages. The chart below explains the pros and cons of each:

Iceman Pros
Plastic construction resists heat transfer.

Highest-quality silicone couplers.

Includes mounting bracket.

Includes untapped fitting for NOS.

Available in colors.

Iceman Cons

Plastic construction looks – and sounds – cheap.

Two-piece construction looks "goofy".

Does not include pre-tapped fitting for Saturn air temp sensor.

Crankcase vent hose too short for SOHC applications.

Poor installation instructions.

Powerstack Pros

Optional ceramic coating resists heat transfer.

Metal construction looks strong and "high-tech".

One piece tubular construction looks clean and well-built.

Includes fitting for Saturn air temp sensor.

Metal construction produces aggressive "growl" under throttle.

Available in either chrome or ceramic.

Powerstack Cons

Does not include mounting bracket.

We have recently simplified the pricing of the 21 HP Package. The new package includes the Hotshot ceramic-coated intake, SPS big-bore throttle body, Hotshot ceramic headers, Kayne T-304 cat-back exhaust piping, Kayne Sport muffler, SPS fuel pressure regulator, Beru Silverstone spark plugs, and red Nology Hotwires. Pricing for the package is simply $1398.00 plus the $160 core deposit. We will allow limited substitutions, so if you would prefer a slightly altered package, please ask us for a quote!

Many more new products will be introduced very shortly. But although we are excited about the new items, we are trying very hard to use discretion about releasing new product information. As we’ve learned from previous projects, sharing any information before solidifying all of the facts can inadvertently mislead customers, employees, and supporters. Please visit our web site often and watch for future updates. Many more exciting items are on the horizon!

Now You Wish You Had Bought Snow Tires…
Now that much of the Midwest US has been blasted by snow (including Dayton, Ohio…bummer,) many of you are probably wishing that you had bought snow tires. (Or perhaps a 4-wheel drive SUV?) We are STILL offering Firestone Winterfire snow tires in a 195/60/15 size mounted and balanced on 15 inch OEM steel wheels. Our part number for these is STL/FW15 and they are available for $89.95 each. We recently compared these to an identical offering from the big wheel and tire distributor that advertises in all of the major automotive magazines – you know the one we’re talking about – and they had an almost identical package priced at $106.50 each. So we know that our price of $89.95 is a great deal! Don’t delay any longer…more snow is on the way!

Need additional incentive? Act during the month of January and receive OE Saturn wheel covers for just $10.00 each with the purchase of a snow tire package. Now you get steel wheels, snow tires, OE wheel covers, and mounting and balancing for just $99.95 per corner! Now what’s your excuse?

SPS Racing
The vote from the SCCA Competition Board regarding the approval of the 1999 SPS Saturn Showroom Stock Performance Package will take place in mid-January.
