New Products
Last month, we told you about the new SOHC Rear Sway Bar Installation Kits that allow you to install a much-needed rear sway bar onto all SOHC SL, SL1, SC1, and SW1 models. These kits are now in stock and available for immediate delivery. The part number for the kit is SWAY101K and they are only $159.00 each. We recently installed a kit on Roger’s SL1. While maneuvering the sway bar into place without removing brake lines required some patience, the bulk of the install was a breeze. And it only cost us $20.00 to have a local speed shop weld the brackets to the rear suspension cross-member! Please see the SPS product pages for more details.
Owners of the Powerstack intake system will appreciate our new K&N 62-1000 crankcase vent filters. These small performance filters slip onto the vent that exits the cam cover and replace the silicon hose that normally connects the cam cover to the Powerstack. Why? Because crankcase vapors are hot. By venting the crankcase through the K&N filter, it avoids sucking hot crankcase vapors back into the intake stream. This helps ensure that only cool, dense air enters the throttle body. The part number for the K&N crankcase filters is KN62-1000. They are in stock now at $16.97 each.
SPS now stocks the "3542" camber bolts from Ingalls Engineering. Like the EZ-Cam bolts, the Ingalls units allow an additional degree of camber – either positive or negative. And they allow more precise adjustment. However, rather than using an inserted pin to push against the knuckle, the Ingalls bolts employ an offset lobe. The result is a fastener of superior quality and reliability. The part number for these is IE3542. They are in stock now at $31.11 per pair.
Tires are the most essential starting point for developing a Saturn platform that handles well. Unfortunately, most enthusiasts mistakenly consider tires as an afterthought. But think about it for just a moment…the tires define the limit of grip with the road surface. Since the stock suspension can easily overwhelm the stock tires, upgrading suspension components without increasing the grip between the tire and the road surface will yield no net gain in handling! The lesson here is this: Tires should be taken very seriously – and they should be one of the first upgrades that you perform. Our Toyo distributor has recently arranged a new favorable arrangement with Toyo that has resulted in better pricing on several models. These include:

We Still Have Snow Tires…
So you forgot about the SPS snow tire offer last month. But it won’t be long until snow and slush returns to the roadways. Now is the time to invest in snow tires. And this year’s snow tire deal at SPS is a strong one! We are offering Firestone Winterfire snow tires in a 195/60/15 size mounted and balanced on 15 inch OEM steel wheels. Our part number for these is STL/FW15 and they are available for $89.95 each. We recently compared these to an identical offering from the big wheel and tire distributor that advertises in all of the major automotive magazines – you know the one we’re talking about – and they had an almost identical package priced at $106.50 each. So we know that our price of $89.95 is a great deal! Don’t delay!!
SPS Racing
The 1999 Showroom Stock Saturn Performance Package has been submitted to the SCCA’s Competition Board. Unfortunately, we do not expect to receive an answer about its approval until April. So we are unable to share the details of the package until it is approved. Suffice it to say that next year’s package is exceptional. Many thanks to James, Mike, Roland at H&R, and the many supporters of SPS Racing for designing the package so quickly – and so accurately! We are proud to play a role in its development!
