Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts! Please enjoy the latest August SPS Updates… New Products No, we still don’t have the mandrel-bent cat-back piping in stock. BUT, we have made a huge decision that we expect will finish the project soon. Since our original manufacturer was having difficulty finishing the Saturn exhaust project, we have switched to a larger manufacturer that has made Saturn systems in the past. They had begun prototype work last week – and they even put a Saturn on the lift! We hope to have a working prototype within a few weeks and inventory available a few weeks after that! A few months ago, Carrera changed the design of the body nut that holds the strut cartridge into the housing. The strange shape of the new nut made it difficult to torque the body nut to spec. We are proud to announce that SPS has the solution for ALL Carrera customers in stock. Our exclusive Body Nut Tool fits perfectly around Carrera’s oddly shaped nut and works with a ½ inch ratchet or torque wrench to allow easy tightening. All SPS Body Nut Tools are made of hardened steel and are black-oxide coated – so one tool should last a lifetime! The part number on these tools is CAR5401ST and they are in stock for $15.99 each. Due to the large number of enthusiasts that have bought both the SPS brake package (PKG004) and the rear disc brake conversion kit (PKG006,) we have created a new package that combines both of these under one part number and one price. We call this package the "Stage Two Brake Kit." The Stage Two Brake Kit includes the rear disc conversion kit, front and rear Stillen cross-drilled rotors, and front and rear Carbotech Kelate-metallic brake pads. This new package is available under part number PKG007 for $1017.40. More and more Saturn enthusiasts are getting serious about building their motors. (Quite frankly, we’ve been surprised by the number of pistons, heads, and flywheels that have been sold.) To address this new level of serious enthusiasm, we have created the "Hardcore Powertrain Package." This incredible package (PKG008) includes four forged JE pistons (made to your specs!), Total Seal rings, our performance cylinder head, our extrude-honed intake manifold, our lightweight aluminum flywheel, the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch kit, the Saturn OE throw-out bearing, the Saturn OE head gasket kit, and the Saturn OE throttle body gasket. The total price of the package is $2710.70 plus $810.00 in core deposits. We thought that the Aero Enhancements body kits were no longer available. Recently, we learned that the body kit for 91-95 Saturn sedans is still available. We are offering this kit while supplies last. Pieces of the kit are available separately or as a complete kit. The complete kit is part number SS9300 and costs $599.00. Photos of this kit will be added to our web site soon! (Please note: We are still looking for body kits for the coupes and the newer body styles.) Many owners of 91-96 SC2 coupes have asked us about headlamp upgrades (since the pop-up lamps cannot use the blue halogen bulbs.) We now stock the Sylvania XtraVisionä Xenon Headlamps which are made for the 91-96 SC2 coupes with pop-up lamps. These units promise better light thanks to higher wattage bulbs (55W low beam and 65W high beam), redesigned lenses, and powerful Xenon gas bulbs. The result is a brighter, more uniform beam pattern and longer life performance. The part number for these is SYL4666 and the price is $45.95 each. SPS Racing For those of you that have not yet heard, the Clash of the Titans at IRP on July 12 did not quite go the way we had hoped. Although the qualifying session was exciting – James Walker and team scR qualified just .01 seconds behind Mike Kramer and Thundersport Racing – scR suffered a broken radiator during an off-track excursion in the race which ended our day. Mike went on to finish 7th – the same as his qualifying position. Things went better for scR two weeks later at Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin. James qualified in second place with a time that beat the previous course record. And his fifth place finish during the race earned a few more national points which should help guarantee an invitation to the Valvoline Run-Offs in October at Mid-Ohio. Mike Kramer and Thundersport Racing have no races scheduled until the Run-Offs. But they are looking for one more event, since a 2nd place (or better) finish would clinch the divisional title for Thundersport Racing. Until then, they will be making repairs and improvements to the car and preparing for the championship race. Good luck Mike – and congrats! The scR motorsports car also received a recent freshening-up with many new OEM parts. They will be competing at Grattan in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 8-9 and at Mid-Ohio on August 22-23. The Mid-Ohio event on August 22-23 is also Saturn Enthusiast Day in which all Saturn performance enthusiasts are invited to join us at the track in support of scR motorsports. Please visit the SPS web site at http://www.spswebpage.com for more details about this event! SPS Events SPS invites all Saturn enthusiasts to join us at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on August 22-23 to support James Walker and scR motorsports. This is their final event of the regular season and it will be exciting! This is a non-spectator event, so you must RSVP in advance so that scR can submit all names as team-members. The cost of the event is $10.00, payable at the gate. For more details, please visit the SPS web site at http://www.spswebpage.com. The rest of the summer schedule follows: Aug 7-9 – Kevin is at the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky Aug 16 – Solo 2 race at Kilkare in Xenia, Ohio Aug 22-23 – Saturn Enthusiast Day at Mid-Ohio Oct 4 - Solo 2 race at Kilkare in Xenia, OH. (Please be warm, please be warm, please be warm...) More events may fill the schedule as we continue! Pilgrimage Event Our performance Pilgrimage to Spring Hill took place on July 15-19. The event was a blast and we thank all of you that joined us! Congratulations to Kevin Svarda, Bill Deebs, Lane Stroik, and Jamie French who won the car show by popular vote by Saturn team-members. And also to Kevin Svarda, Noah Boehm, Lane Stroik, Jamin Cummings, and Al Clapsaddle – these guys had never competed in a Solo 2 autocross before – until the Pilgrimage in Spring Hill. And they did GREAT! We also extend our thanks to all Saturn team members in Spring Hill. Your interest and enthusiasm are GREATLY appreciated! We will post more details and photos from this event to our web site soon! Humanitarian Efforts We are proud to report that Rio, the starving stray cat that we adopted last month, is officially "in the clear," according to the vet. While she still needs to gain some weight, her infection is gone, her shots are completed, and she is full of energy and affection. (In case you’ve been wondering, the purring sounds that you may hear when you call to place an order are from Rio, not from John or Kevin!) We also did what we could to save a feline victim of recent flooding during the Pilgrimage in Spring Hill. While at the US 43 Dragway on Friday night, the SPS crew noticed a stray cat wondering around – of all places – the starting line and staging lanes prior to the races! Since they are suckers for cats, John and Jen from SPS carried the stray to safety in the nearby woods. If you have any questions, please Contact Us. Until next month, HAVE A GREAT SUMMER! |
