Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts!

Please enjoy the latest April SPS Updates…

Document Core Returns Properly to Receive Full Credit
Lately, we have received too many core returns that have not included the proper documentation. In fact, many of these core returns have had no documentation to identify the owners at all – not even a return shipping address! This makes it rather difficult to give the proper credit for the core return.

To avoid such problems, please be sure to send a copy of your original invoice within the shipment!

Also, please remember that all shipments to the SPS warehouse must be properly identified. This means that core returns should be addressed to, ‘Attn: Core Returns.’ And returns that require a return merchandise authorization should be addressed to, ‘Attn: RMA_____.’ Any parcels that are not identified with a RMA number or as a core return will be refused!

Product News
Stillen performance slotted brake rotors for the L series cars are now available. Stillen’s performance brake rotors are designed to improve pedal feel and stand up to the rigors of aggressive driving. Stillen rotors are made with top-grade materials, computer engineered slot patterns, and a gold cadmium coating (to prevent rust on the rotor edges.) Stillen Slotted Sport Rotors feature 7 slots machined into each rotor surface to ‘clean’ the face of the brake pad and prevent glazing under extreme conditions. This results in better pad contact and improved pedal feel. L series front rotors are part number ST2000S for $199.00 per pair. L series rear rotors are part number ST2001S for $189.00 per pair.

Also now available for the L series are Stillen Metal Matrix brake pads. Stillen’s Metal Matrix brake pads use a more aggressive carbon-metallic compound that delivers better initial bite, more predictable modulation, and slightly higher temperature thresholds. Yet they are conservative enough to be kind to rotors, light on dust, and low on noise. These are great pads for the budget-minded enthusiast! Stillen front pad sets for the L series are part number MM819 for $59.00 per set. Stillen rear pad sets for the L series are part number MM709 for $49.00 per set.

Many more new products will be introduced very shortly. But although we are excited about the new items, we must use discretion about releasing new product information because sharing any information before solidifying all of the facts can inadvertently mislead customers, employees, and supporters. Please visit our web site often and watch for future updates. Many more exciting items are on the horizon.

April Specials
Our gorgeous black emblem sets may be just what you need to give your modified Saturn a unique look. These are a very simple replacement of the stock red emblems for Saturn S and L series cars, but they look great! Choose between the EMB001BL (3-piece set for all 91-99 sedans, all 91-96 coupes, and 2000 SL w/o painted fascia,) normally $29.00 – now only $26.10, the EMB002BL (4-Piece Set for all 97-02 Coupes,) normally $39.00 – now only $35.10, the EMB003BL (3-Piece Set for 2000-02 Sedans/Wagons {not 2000 SL}) normally $29.00 – now only $26.10, and the EMB004BL (4-piece set for all 00-02 L series,) normally $39.00 - now only $35.10!

During aggressive braking, hydraulic pressure can cause the stock rubber flexible brake hoses to expand outward, leading to a soft 'mushy' pedal feel. SPS braided stainless steel brake lines reduce this expansion, ensuring a firmer pedal for better control and more driver confidence. And the stainless steel material provides a stronger and more durable hose that is less prone to damage in the event of accidental contact with tires or debris. No other brake hose set can offer our superior combination of features. Choose the BSL4001 set for all 91-02 S series cars with rear drum brakes or the BSL4002 set for all 91-02 S series cars with rear disc brakes. These sets are normally $159.00 but are on sale now for only $143.10 per set!

SPS Racing
With a solid qualifying run, Mike Kramer and the Thundersport race team managed to put the #16 Panasonic/SPS Saturn into the second Showroom Stock C starting slot for the SCCA National event at Road Atlanta during the March 29-30 weekend. Mike and his SC2 took the green flag just behind Honda fast kid, Tom Long. Long blistered the Road Atlanta tarmac with a qualifying time of 1:50:300. Mike’s best lap, a 1:50:700, was a scant 4/10s of a second slower than the Honda's.

With qualifying complete and the grid set, the Showroom Stock C group of 10 cars readied for another Road Atlanta battle. The field included Honda pilots Tim Myers and Rich Boenning, Brad Davis in his cute BMW MINI, and Eric Van Cleef in the brand new - and deceptively fast - Toyota Celica.

Like most SCCA weekends, the showroom stock groups are combined with other classes of cars to form a larger race group. Thirty-seven cars would make up the combined total of Sunday's race group. Traffic – and the management thereof - would be key to winning…or losing.

The Brandlehner brothers set about checking the chassis and readied the Saturn for the 19-lap sprint. The ambient air temperature was dropping into the mid-40's. The track - and the racecars - would be faster than they were during qualifying.

At the green flag, Long vaulted to a substantial lead. Mike gave chase with Myers and Van Cleef in tow. On the fourth lap, Van Cleef slowed exiting turn 7, causing Myers to back out of the throttle. Mike got away and the three-car train became just one. From that point forward, the Saturn was like the ‘little engine that could,’ carving precious seconds from Long's lead.

On the thirteenth lap, the Panasonic logo on the #16's hood began to fill Long's mirrors. The pursuit was relentless. Mike passed him on the downhill right-hander of turns 11 and 12, and tried to run away. But his position there was short lived, as Long made a desperate pass entering turn 7. He made the pass stick and Mike rode around in second for the next several laps, looking for place to get past.

Mike’s opportunity came on the last lap, when Long carried too much speed into turn 10a and then bobbled exiting 10b. Mike pulled along his right side as they raced up the hill to the blind entrance of turn 11. Kramer crested the hill on the preferred line and flashed across the start/finish stripe a mere 5/10s of a second in front of Long to claim the win.

Yea, man - that was exciting! The Saturn went back on the trailer a better racecar and another step closer to the 2003 Runoffs.

Mike and the Thundersport team recently unveiled their new website, located at:
http://home.bellsouth.net/p/s/community.dll?ep=16&groupid=19867&ck. Though still under development, the site contains gobs of information about the Thundersport team – and tons of photos of the #19 car in action. Be sure to check it out.

Meanwhile, back in the Central Division, John Comeskey and James Walker will start the scR season with a double regional at IRP on April 12-13. As always, be sure to catch the latest news, schedule changes, race recaps, and photo and video galleries at the new scR website located at http://www.teamscr.com.

SPS to Support SICSA Walk for Strays
The Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals (SICSA) is holding its Fifth Annual Walk for Strays to be held on Saturday, May 31 at Delco Park in Kettering, Ohio. The funds raised from this event will help SICSA pay the medical and animal care expenses and veterinarian bills for the dogs and cats in their program. Aside from fund-raising, the other important goal for the event is to raise public awareness as to the numbers of stray and unwanted animals and to educate the public about spaying and neutering.

This year, SPS will be contributing to the fund raising effort with a $150 donation. And SPS team members Jen and John will be participating in the walk. But we would like to do even more. Unfortunately, slow economic conditions have prevented us from making a more aggressive donation. However, we hope that through cooperation with our customers and supporters, we can work together to provide more assistance. So with that in mind, we are pledging a donation match program in which SPS will match 100% of the donations of our customers.

If you wish to make a donation, please call SICSA directly at 937-294-6505 or send donations in the mail to Box 292463, Kettering, OH 45429, Attn: Walk for Strays. Please be sure to specify that your donation is part of the SPS Team Match program so that we are made aware of your donation and can match it.

SICSA is a nonprofit animal adoption agency that has served Montgomery County for 29 years. Their website can be found at http://www.sicsa.org.
