Greetings Saturn Enthusiasts!

Please enjoy the latest April SPS Updates…

SPS Online Order Page Gets Secured
After experiencing some reliability problems in mid-April, the SPS online ordering feature is now undergoing some welcome updates and improvements. When work is completed later this week, the feature will be operated from a secure server, thus offering additional security, peace-of-mind, and efficiency for customers who prefer to place their orders via the web.

If you wish to place an order in the meantime, please email us or call toll-free at 800-632-1059. And if you placed an order between April 10 and April 18 and did not receive confirmation from an SPS team member, please contact us!

The additional security is just one of several new features that are planned for the online order page. Check back often for more details!

Product News
For the top-of-the-line brake pad that can handle virtually any job, consider the Carbotech Panther pad. The Panther offers enough initial bite to work great as a solo2/autocross pad while simultaneously delivering enough friction consistency at higher temperatures to handle high-speed lapping events and driver schools. Use the CT507P in the front and the CT508P in the rear. Both are priced at $109.00 per axle set.

Thinking about hot-rodding one of the new yellow SC2 coupes? To help you, we now offer Nology Hotwires for the DOHC Saturn in yellow. The NOL001Y wires fit all DOHC models, are CARB approved (#D414,) and are in stock now for $149.00 per set.

When you need true racing dampers that allow extra damping rates and adjustability for real racing environments, the Koni race damper is the answer! These Koni damper cartridges work in conjunction with the Carrera housings, allow 125% adjustability, and provide very firm damping rates to handle even the stiffest race springs. (Recommended for racing use only. Requires over-boring the upper strut mount bushings. For use with coil-over kit, combine with 54266 housing in the front – do not use with 54265.) Each insert is available using part number KO1149 for $189.00 per corner.

Koni’s adjustable dampers have long been legendary for their performance in racing applications. And now Koni offers direct replacement bolt-on adjustable front and rear struts for Saturn’s mid-sized LS and LW models. These excellent struts feature dial-to-adjust rebound damping in the front. The rear struts offer compress-to-adjust rebound damping with an adjustable spring perch. (Note: front struts are specific to driver and passenger sides.) Choose the KO1346 in the front for $229.00 each and the KO2754 in the rear for $149.00 each.

It doesn’t take long for most enthusiasts to realize that stock wheel bearings fail quickly when subjected to the cornering loads that result from performance tire and suspension combinations. The reduced longevity of the stock bearing is due to its ball-bearing design that limits the amount of surface area over which loads are dispersed. Our performance bearings utilize a hardened tapered roller-bearing design that allows loads to be dispersed along a larger surface area to sustain higher cornering loads with extended longevity. The MCTKS39 is available now for $49.00 each.

Parts for the new L-series sedans and wagons are slowly becoming available. The latest addition is the Covercraft front end cover which is now available for all 2000+ LS1, LS2, LW1, and LW2 models. The MM42071 is in stock now for $99.00 each.

Many more new products will be introduced very shortly. But although we are excited about the new items, we are trying very hard to use discretion about releasing new product information because sharing any information before solidifying all of the facts can inadvertently mislead customers, employees, and supporters. Please visit our web site often and watch for future updates. Many more exciting items are on the horizon!

SPS Racing
Mike Kramer and the Thundersport Racing team raced again at Road Atlanta on April 1st and 2nd. Mike qualified on Saturday in the SSC pole position with a .3 second advantage over the second-place Neon. And he was 21st overall in the large field comprised of various classes. However, Sunday’s race contest brought rain – and lots of it. In fact, as the SSC group was called to the grid, rain was still falling. So the Thundersport team was glad that they had decided to run a rain setup – which included rain tires, reduced tire pressures, and the soft setting on their SPS adjustable rear sway bar.

But as luck would have it, the SSC group was sidelined on the grid for nearly 45 minutes while wreckage from the previous race was removed from the track. This gave Mother Nature just enough time to change her attitude and to replace the rain with clear skies and sunshine for the start of the race.

Being on the SSC pole, Mike was nonetheless able to take a lead at the start. And he kept his lead safely until encountering slower traffic around lap 7. And it was about this time that Mike’s wet weather setup came back to haunt him.

By lap 13, Mike’s Thundersport Saturn had been caught by Michael Londo’s Saturn from Orlando, Florida. (Ironically, Londo and his team had all but surrendered prior to gridding on account of the fact that they had no rain tires!) Kramer held off the challenge for 2 more laps, but Londo soon took over the lead – leaving Mike with a second place finish in SSC and 11th overall. Kramer and Londo are currently tied for first place in the points race in the Southeast Division.

The next race for the Mike Kramer and the Thundersport team will be April 22-23 at Carolina Motorsport Park in Kershaw, South Carolina.

Friday, April 14 marked the season opener for SPS’ own Roger Baker. Roger and his family own and operate Baker Racing – which has raced everything from stock cars to sprint cars to legends cars. 2000 marks Roger’s own debut as a driver into the sport of legends car racing.

Roger and the Baker Racing team were very pleased with the results of the opening race – despite the fact that they failed to qualify for the feature race. But since rookie drivers are forced to grid at the rear of the pack, Roger was only hoping for a fun and safe race. After an exciting first heat, first lap spin, Roger proceeded to prove his mettle as a driver by trouncing two leading cars and nearly catching a third! Most importantly, he gained valuable track experience, had fun, and didn’t break anything!

Roger and the Baker Racing team compete again this weekend in Columbus, Ohio.

Meanwhile, the scR motorsports team is anxiously awaiting their May debut in ITA. However, work on the racecar is complete. So James has spent some time sharing details about the scR race motor with the rest of the world.
