Page 4 of 5 Day 4 – Saturday, July 18 Most of the morning and afternoon on Saturday was spent at the Solo 2 race hosted by the Tennessee Region SCCA in the parking lot of Saturn’s Northfield Complex. 28 cars competed in the event which included 2 Nissans, 2 Porsches, 2 Corvettes, 2 BMWs, 1 Camaro SS, 1 Mustang Cobra, 1 Mazda Miata, and a Cosworth Vega. 14 Saturn drivers were divided into 2 classes – first-time novices and those with prior experience. There were 9 experienced Saturn racers and 5 novices. John Comeskey from SPS won the Saturn experienced class in his gold SL2. His best time of 43.741 also beat the best efforts of the Camaro SS and the Mustang Cobra. Kevin Svarda from SPS won the novice class in his 98 SC2. Even though this was Kevin’s first experience in a Solo 2 race, his best time of 44.195 was good enough to have taken 2nd place in the experienced class! | | Competitors crowd around the SCCA trailer for the drivers’ meeting. |

After the race, most of us cleaned up and headed a few miles north to Franklin to attend a huge weekly cruise-in. We had dinner at Backyard Burgers and saw a ton of awesome cars. While at the cruise-in, we ran into a few Saturn execs who brought out their own street-machines – including an original Classic Camaro and a Ford Coupe street rod.
