Installation Instructions

1. Remove the intake plumbing from the throttle body. (If you have a Powerstack intake, you must loosen the left clamp with a flathead screwdriver. If you have a 95-99 factory airbox, you must squeeze the factory throttle body clamp with a pair of pliers. If you have a 91-94 factory airbox, you must remove the clamp with either a 10mm or screwdriver.)

2. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle body. This is usually done by applying pressure to the cable with your finger just behind the throttle body attachment. Then, while applying pressure, open the throttle plate, causing the “T” end of the cable to exit the fitting in the throttle cable lever.

3. Unclip the vacuum lines from the top of the throttle body using a flathead screwdriver. Then unplug the sensor lines. (The small one is the throttle position sensor. The fat one is the Idle Air Control Valve.)

4. Loosen and remove the two 10mm bolts that attach the throttle body to the intake manifold. (1996-1999 models will also have a bracket bracing the throttle body to the head which must be removed.)

5. Remove the old throttle body. Inspect the gasket. If it cannot be reused, replace it with a Saturn gasket (part no. 21008478.)

6. Remove the throttle position sensor and the IAC valve from the original throttle body and install them onto the new throttle body using the appropriate torx drivers (Allen wrenches will also work if necessary.)

7. Install the new throttle body and repeat steps 2 through 5 in reverse order.

8. Prior to installing your intake plumbing, we recommend setting the manual idle air control screw via the following procedure.

A. Unplug the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve (the fat sensor-like thing.)
B. Plug the IAC feed hole in the bottom of the throttle body airway with a clean shop rag.
C. Start the car. *It is likely to stall, since you have just disabled the idle control system. Prevent this by manually operating the throttle lever (or by having an assistant operate the accelerator pedal.)
D. Turn the idle control screw (just beneath and behind the throttle cable lever) until proper idle is restored without manual interference (approx. 900 RPM on a warm engine.)
E. Unplug the IAC feed hole and reconnect the IAC valve.

*Note: You will set an error code in the engine diagnostic system by disabling the IAC valve. This does not indicate a problem with the throttle body. Your “Service Engine Soon” light will go out after 10 starts or a Saturn Retail Facility can clear the error code from the system.

9. Install the intake plumbing. Be Careful During the Installation! The Wall of the modified throttle body is thinner than stock. Forceful clamping when attaching your intake to the throttle body can cause the wall to crack.
