1. Remove the 13mm upper strut mounting bolts from both sides of the engine compartment at the tops of the front strut towers. 2. Loosen but do not remove the 2 fasteners at each end of the strut tower brace where the crossbar meets the end brackets. (There are 4 fasteners total, 2 at each end.) This connection is slotted which allows for some fine-tuning of the fit. You will most likely need to fine-tune the length via this slot in order to ensure that the end brackets match correctly with the studs of the upper strut mounts. 3. Lay the bar into place so that the crossbar spans the motor toward the front of the car and so that the engraved “SPS” is visible and legible. (An improper installation occurs when the crossbar spans the motor toward the firewall and the “SPS” reads upside down.) 4. Reinstall the 13mm upper strut mount nuts on just one side of the bar and finger-tighten. 5. Slide the crossbar and the opposite end bracket as necessary along the slotted connections so that the unfastened end bracket matches to the studs on the other upper strut mount. 6. Reinstall the 13mm nuts to the remaining upper strut mount and finger-tighten. 7. Tighten the adjustment fasteners at the end brackets and check all other fasteners along the bar. (These should be only “snug,” not “tight.” Approximately 20ft-lbs.) 8. Torque all 6 of the 13mm upper strut mount nuts to 21ft-lbs. (Use caution. The stock upper strut mount studs can break easily if over-tightened. This requires a new upper strut mount and a wheel alignment to fix.) |
