Please take a few minutes to read through these instructions in their entirety – including the helpful hints - BEFORE you start to modify your Saturn. Remember: careful planning and preparation will make your install experience educational and painless.
Please note: these instructions are based upon our experience installing the NR3825 gauges in the 1993-1994 DOHC. Other models may be similar, but will vary from what we have shared here . White Gauge Face Kit Preparation - Make sure that you have all the parts and tools listed below before you attempt this installation! Contact SPS immediately if you have questions or concerns regarding part quantities or part numbers.
| Part Description | QTY | Other TOOLS NEEDED | QTY | | White Gauge Face | 1 | 7mm Socket Wrench | 1 | | Red Bulb Socks | 2 | Phillips Screwdriver (small) | 1 | | Needle Removal Pry Tool | 1 | Flathead Screwdrivers | 2 | Removing the Gauge Cluster - Using a small flat-head screwdriver, gently pry the two plastic plugs that cover the dash bolts. They are located on either side of the top of the dash. Using a 7mm socket, remove dash bolts.
- Starting at the driver’s side corner, gently pry up on the dash panel until the retaining clips release. In a similar fashion, work your way across the dash until all retaining clips have been released. Then pull outward on the panel to remove it from the dash.
- Locate the four bolts along the top of the dash securing the gauge cluster shroud and remove them using a 7mm socket.
- Remove the bezel surrounding the stereo and heater controls by first removing the fuse covers on either side of the center console and then pulling on the bezel until its retaining clips release. At this time, also open the glove box door to allow clearance for removal of the gauge cluster shroud.
- Lift off the gauge cluster shroud. Using a 7mm socket, remove the four bolts holding the white plastic tabs on either side of gauge.
- Locate the large plug on the rear of the gauge cluster and remove it by gently prying on its white plastic retaining clip and wiggle the plug until it releases.
- Lift the cluster out of car and take it to a clean, flat surface.
Disassembling the Gauge Cluster - Remove the 3 light bulbs along the top front of the cluster. Then, carefully lift the flat mylar wire away from the bulb sockets.
- Remove the 6 tiny screws holding the front of the housing to the rear of the housing and the indicator light panel to the bulb sockets. Remove the indicator light panel.
- Using one flat head screwdriver, press in on one of the black tabs holding the halves together. Then, wedge a second screwdriver into another slot next to the first. Using this method, work your way around the housing until all the tabs have been released. Separate the two halves.
Applying New Gauge Faces - Be sure your hands and tools are clean and dry to keep the new faces from getting smudged.
- Using pry tool (if included) or two flat-head screwdrivers, carefully remove the gauge needles.
- Starting at one corner, peel original black face off of the clear plastic panel to which it is adhered. After removing the old face, make sure that this clear panel is free of dust and grease.
- Remove adhesive backing paper from new gauge face. Line up odometer reset knob and slots along bottom of gauge face. Press firmly onto panel then remove the clear protective plastic off of the new face.
- Reinstall needles, bulbs, screws, and reassemble housing. Reinstallation into dashboard is the reverse of removal.
HELPFUL HINTS: - Fill up your gas tank before installing gauges. Start your car to align the needles and then turn off the ignition. Remember the position of the needles. It is much easier to position them once than to have to disassemble the entire cluster again to fix a mistake.
- Because the factory needles are white, they don’t tend to show up well against the white gauges. You can either paint them the color of your choice or simply color them black with a permanent marker. Make sure to do this BEFORE you reinstall the needles.
- The two red bulb socks included in the kit can be placed on any instrument bulb, but the best results can be gained by arranging them the following way:
Place the red socks on the two outside bulbs that shine on the front of the gauges, leaving the center bulb white. Remove the bulbs behind the fuel and temperature gauges and leave all four white bulbs behind the main gauges intact. This allows maximum readability of the gauges. However, this is only a suggestion and varies by your aesthetic taste. Most importantly: TAKE YOUR TIME and ENJOY YOUR NEW GAUGES! |
