Q: What is the difference between DOHC and SOHC? A: DOHC stands for ‘double overhead camshaft.’ This refers to the twin cam 16-valve engine that is used in the SC2, SL2, and SW2 S-series models. SOHC stands for ‘single overhead camshaft.’ This refers to the single cam 8-valve engines used in the SC1, SL, SL1, and SW1 S-series models.
Q: How much power does/did my S series engine make in new stock condition? A: The DOHC engines were rated at 124HP at 5600 rpm and 122 ft-lbs at 4800 rpm. The 91-94 SOHC engines were rated at 85HP and 100 ft-lbs. The 95-02 SOHC engines were rated at 100HP at 5000 rpm and 115 ft-lbs at 2400 rpm.
Q: What is the difference between the 91-94 SOHC and the 95-02 SOHC? A: The 91-94 SOHC engines used a throttle body fuel injection system in which there was just one fuel injector that serviced all four cylinders. The injector was located above the throttle opening, so fuel and air molecules mixed as they traveled through the intake manifold. The 95-02 SOHC engines used a much more advanced multi-port and sequential injection system in which there are four injectors total (one fuel injector for each cylinder,) and fuel was introduced at the cylinder head intake port.
Q: How much do you charge for shipping? A: The standard carrier for all SPS shipments is United Parcel Service (UPS.) UPS rates depend upon the number of boxes, the weight of the boxes, the size of the boxes, the insured value of the boxes, the origin, the destination, and the level of service selected.
Shipping rates are now calculated during checkout in the online store.
Q: How soon will my order arrive? A: During the liquidation process, we typically ship once per week on Fridays. UPS ground is our standard level of service. Time in transit for ground service will vary between one to five business days, depending on destination location. We are happy to upgrade your order to expedited shipping (Three-Day Select, Second Day Air, or Next Day Air) upon request.
Q: Do you ship to Canada? A: Yes. Technically we can ship to anywhere that UPS delivers – including Canada. Please note that SPS can only charge you for the basic freight costs. Duties, taxes, and customs brokerage fees will be collected from you by UPS at the time of delivery.
Q: Will you ship to an APO? A: Yes, we will ship to an APO, but UPS cannot deliver to an APO, so we must use USPS. However, this does incur a minor additional handling fee. Our default method will be parcel post – particularly on large heavy items. We will upgrade the service level to priority upon request. Before placing an order to an APO box, please Contact Us.
Q: What is a ‘core deposit?’ A: A ‘core deposit’ is used whenever a stock part is remanufactured and resold. For example, alternators, batteries, etc. are common examples. The most commonly used example for SPS is with oversize performance throttle body units. In this case, we take the stock throttle body, bead blast it, bore it out, and rebuild it with a new oversized throttle plate. So we need your old stock throttle back in order to remanufacture it.
But it would be very inconvenient for you if you had to send your throttle to us in advance and wait for us to rebuild it. So we have invested in a large stock of cores. These cores have been remanufactured in advance and we keep them on the shelf ready for your order. So when you place an order, we can ship your new part to you right away. In the meantime, we charge you a deposit against the core – since for a short period of time, you will have both throttles in your possession. So when you place your order, you will be charged for the cost of the new item PLUS the cost of the core deposit. Then after you install your new part, you return the stock one back to us and we will refund the deposit.
When you send the core back to us, be sure to identify it as a ‘core return,’ or else it will be refused by our receiving department. We suggest addressing the label like this: SPS PMB 338 2312 Far Hills Ave. Dayton, OH 45419 Attn: Core Returns
Please be sure to include a copy of your original invoice receipt so that we can identify you as the owner of the core! If you originally paid by credit card, then we will simply refund the core deposit back to your card. In some cases, you may wish to apply your core deposit against the purchase of more items. This is fine too, just be sure to include a note with instructions so that we know what to do.
Q: What payment methods can I use? A: SPS accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and PayPal.
Q: What is the issue concerning credit cards and the billing address? A: When paying by credit card, we will ship only to the billing address of the credit card being used – or to an alternate address that we are able to verify with the issuing bank. This is in an effort to prevent credit card fraud, which is costly to our customers, our community, and our business. If you wish to ship to an alternate address, you must contact the issuing bank in advance and document that address within their account records in a way that can be verified for security.
Q: What if my credit card bills to a post office box? A: UPS CANNOT deliver to a post office box. So if your credit card bills to a PO Box, you must also provide a physical shipping address – and you will need to contact your bank and be sure that the shipping address is on file with them.
Q: Can I still make an order even if I do not have a credit card? A: Yes, we receive checks and money orders through the mail on a regular basis. If you are paying by check or money order, we suggest that you Contact Us in advance and tell us that you will be sending payment in the mail and need a ‘quote.’ We will create your customer account and document your order in our electronic order management software. We can then calculate a total cost including shipping and assign a reference number (aka: quote number.) Please include your quote number with your payment so that we can match your payment to your order.
Then send your payment to the SPS warehouse at: SPS Orders PMB 338 2312 Far Hills Ave. Dayton, OH 45419 Attn: Quote #____
For personal checks, please note: Because of the possibility of bounced checks, we will delay shipments for 10 business days after we deposit a personal check. For faster service, please send a money order or cashier’s check instead of a personal check!
Q: What about COD? A: We will NOT ship retail orders via COD (cash on delivery.)
Q: Do I have to pay sales tax? A: If you are having your order shipped to an address within the state of Ohio, then we must collect sales tax at the rate required by your county. We will NOT collect sales tax on orders that ship outside Ohio.
Q: What if an item that I want is out of stock? A: Any out of stock orders will be cancelled.
Q. Do you sell gift certificates? A: No.
Q: Will aftermarket performance parts void my warranty? A: The installation of a non-Saturn part does NOT void the Saturn factory warranty. (Federal law prohibits manufacturers from refusing to honor warranties because of the use of aftermarket parts.) However, if a non-Saturn part is ever proven in a court-of-law to be the cause of a defect in question, then the factory warranty will not cover that particular problem. For example, suppose an enthusiast installs nitrous-oxide in his or her Saturn which is still under warranty. One day, while drag racing, the enthusiast blows up the motor and simultaneously develops a stuck sunroof. The sunroof must be fixed under warranty. The blown motor does not.
Q: Are SPS parts covered under any type of warranty? A: This varies according to the part. Most bolt-on parts are covered by some sort of warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. All warranty claims must be filed directly with the manufacturer. SPS is not responsible for warranty claims. All SPS-branded items are sold without warranty.
Q: If I don't like the item that I bought, can I return it? A: No. All sales are final.
Q: Do I need a RMA number to return a core? A: No. Core returns should be identified with an address line that says, ‘Attn: Core Returns.’
Q: Can I cancel my order? A: Once an order has been shipped, it cannot be cancelled. Any order that is cancelled prior to shipping will incur a $10.00 cancellation charge.
Q: Do you have a showroom? A: No, we do not have a showroom.
Q: If I find a better price somewhere else, will you match their price? A: Maybe. If you find a better price online, please Contact Us with the relevant URL.
Q: Will you sponsor me? A: Absolutely not. Please stop asking. |
